Happy 2015! I would like to start the New Year off on the right paw by telling you about a great way you can help your local shelter/rescue help an adoptable pet in need.
Get ready to mark your calendars because January 24 is Change a Pet's Life Day. This national day was started in 2009 by Hill's Pet Nutrition to encourage pet adoption and draw attention to the many homeless pets stuck in shelters and rescues.
As many of us know, there are lots of things you can do to help pets in shelters/rescues even if you cannot adopt one at the moment. Why, you can check the shelter's "wish list" and donate some needed items, you can donate a gift card so they can purchase pet supplies or you can offer to volunteer!
And this year, you can tell your local shelter/rescue about the 1-800-PetMeds contest where one lucky shelter can win up to $2,000 to cover the medical expenses for an adoptable pet in need.
1-800-PetMeds Change a Pet's Life Day Contest
The Contest is open to all US animal shelters and animal rescue groups - so tell your favorite local shelter or rescue soon so they don't miss this opportunity!
Starting on Friday, January 9, 2015 shelters and rescues enter the Contest by visiting PetMedsCares on Facebook (CLICK HERE*) and submitting a pet that needs surgery or treatment to be considered adoptable (ex. hip or knee surgery, eye enucleation, heartworm treatment, etc.). The entry will include a brief story about the pet's problem, how the group acquired the pet, how the surgery or treatment will change the pet's life and a photo of the pet.
Each shelter/rescue is allowed only one entry! Entries will be accepted through Thursday, January 15, 2015.
From January 16 through the 22nd voting will be open. Anyone who is 18 years old or older with a Facebook account can vote once a day for an adoptable pet in need by visiting HERE*.

On January 23, the winning shelters/rescues and adoptable pets in need will be announced:
1st Place: PetMeds will cover the pet's surgery/treatments up to $2,000
2nd Place: PetMeds will cover the adoption costs of 5 pets
3rd Place: PetMeds will donate $250 to go towards the pet's surgery/treatments
I think this is a terrierific contest!
