I am very thankful to everyone who participated in Blog the Change for Animals on Tuesday.  I read a LOT of great blog posts about everything from favorite rescues/shelters to dog dumping to puppy mills...all were very passionate and insightful; I enjoyed reading them all.

I am also VERY grateful to all who came, read and commented on my post about Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network during Blog the Change for AnimalsYour visits meant a lot to me, the kind people at CPCRN and all the Cairns who are waiting for their forever homes.

Let's see...yesterday I was nominated by my very good buddy Gizmo at Terrier Torrent for the Reality Blog Award.  Thank you so much Gizmo for bestowing another great honor on me!  As usual, I need to review the rules before I can write my award post.

And finally, I would like to report on the CPCRN Adoptable Cairn Terriers (and Cairn mixes) living in foster homes here in Florida.  You can read more about them in my Friday Finds - 1/11/13 post or by visiting Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network Adoptions Page!

It seems that dear Madeira and sweet Minnow have adoptions pending...Woof-Hoo!!!  Please keep your paws crossed that these may be their forever families calling them home!

Honora
Do you remember Honora?  She is the little girl whose owner surrendered her after Superstorm Sandy.  She is still looking for that loving family to give her a great home!

Needles
And then there is Needles.  You remember him, don't you?  He's been in CP foster care since last April - almost 9 months!  I know what you might be thinking..."Oh, look...he's an older dog...he's even greying...we want a young dog who can...".

Well, let me stop you right there.  Did you know that Cairn Terriers can live well into their teens - some even until age 16 or 18?  So, just because he is 10 doesn't mean he is "old". Also, his coloring is NOT due to age - Cairns come in a variety of colors including grey (silver) - even I, as a dark brindle, have always had some grey/silver fur.

As you might guess, Needles is really tugging at my heart strings, pals.  I would love for him to find a home that will love and cherish him for the rest of his life so...

If you, or someone you know, lives in a home in need of a Cairn Terrier, please share these precious dogs - and all the other rescued Cairns - on Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network's website with them.  I would greatly appreciate it!

I am once again going to join the Follow-Up Friday blog hop hosted by Jodi at Heart Like a Dog...thanks, Jodi!

Well, those are my Friday Finds for this week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  4. :-D I loved reading all those Blog for Change posts too Oz! Great information and lots that I didn't know about! Congrats on the award. I hope that your two Cairn friends are officially adopted soon and that the other beautiful guys get homes really quickly, especially Needles! I am happy though that he is in foster and not in a shelter for 9 months! Pft, I'm expected to live well into the high teens too, so 10 years is like his midlife crisis! ;-D

    1. Amen! I am 8 and I think I am just starting mid-life crisis. Pfftt to those who thinks that 10 is old!

  5. It's really nice of you to thank everyone for following and being your friend...I hadn't seen that done before and it's very gracious. That is just an example of why you deserve an award for 'Keeping It Real' And every time you post those photos of Col Potter's Cairns I get a real strong urge to find a friend for Gizmo...so please stop me now ;)

    1. BOL! You and me both, pal. I look at Needles and just keep saying, "Oh if he doesn't get adopted soon I may just scoop him up myself!"

I've never seen it done before either, the thanking like that every week. You know me, I gotta be different...plus it may help them find new friends too!

  8. You are so right Oz - 10 is nothing for a Cairn! My Col. Potter foster sister Mildred just got adopted and she's eight years old and running circles around her new forever Cairn brother - and he's just a young puppersnapper!

Thanks again for getting the word out. I'll keep my paws crossed that all these Cairns have homes soon.

    1. Hi Walter! Hi Angel!

I know...10 is still so young. Maybe mid-life crisis - buying a porsche, eating too many treats, dating Westies...but not old! I have my paws crossed too!

  10. Dear OZ...
Just want to let you know that 10 is not too old to adopt. I adopted a Cairn boy just two weeks before he turned 10.... he lived to be 19!!!... and that was after he lost a leg to cancer at 14... then he went on to be a therapy dog with cancer patients, esp. kids with bone cancer because they could relate to Barney losing HIS leg to cancer... and he loved to be petted and his fur held a lot of tears. He loved to be a part of our cancer survivors group as well. One time I forgot to take him and it was 'talk to the back' for a week. I never forgot him again. Barney kept our back yard free of squirrels. Barney was my heating pad as I went thru chemo and radiation because he always knew what hurt the most and would put his warm body against it to make the pain go away.

So NEVER be afraid to adopt a 'senior' dog. They are blessed with wisdom beyond wealth.

    1. 19?!? Wowza!! Barney sounds like one special doggie - lived through cancer and helped so many get through it as well. I love to keep the yard squirrel-free as well! One of our great traits as Cairns, I guess.

Thank you for stopping by and leaving a "pawprint". It's so nice to meet you!

  12. Hey there Oz, what's up buddy?! Looks like you are doin' some great works there for the adoptions!! Wow! I hopes Honora and Needles find good homes soon!! They sure are cuties! And, you know what else is a plus with an older doggie? They are usually calmer, too! Ah, Ma sometimes wishes I was calmer.....

Oh, I know what you mean about the Mas. I was a HANDFUL and a half when I was young. Now, in mid-life crisis I am much calmer. Tell your mom to hang in there!!

  13. OMD...how could someone have not snatched up Honora and Needles by now?? I have no doubt, they'll be in their loving forever homes very, very soon! Give 'em some scritches for me, though, will you?
    Happy Weekend, Oz!
