Wordless Wednesday - June 29

Ma, like many in her family, is a true dog person.  She has grown up around dogs all her life.  One of the very first dogs she ever met was her Uncle Mike's dog...Shaina.

Shaina taking a rest in the yard

Shaina was an Irish Setter - smart, playful and affectionate (at least, when she wanted to be). Anyone who has ever owned an Irish Setter knows they can be stubborn, hyper and mischievous sometimes...but boy are they pretty with that flowing red hair!

Shaina was around when Ma was still a tiny tot; Ma remembers her fondly because they grew up together.

  4. what a beautiful dog, she has such a beautiful coat. mom says her first dog was a german shepard, actually she was there in my grandparents house before mom was even born. when mom was a baby, just learning to walk- the german shepard used to watch over my mom like the dog from peter pan. one time mom fell and the dog ran to pick her up and had her whole arm in her mouth, she lifted her up and my grandmother was worried she might have accidentally hurt my mom. but mom was laughing and there was not a single mark on my moms arm. I think moms old dog was almost as smart as me!

  5. Yuki:
Ma lived with a German Shepherd too when she was a baby. Her name was Duster. Those Shepherds are such smart doggies...but really, aren't we all?!?

  8. Mom said she always wanted an Irish Setter growing up. There were a pair who lived at a house she passed by every day on her way to school and she thought they were so pretty. I'm glad she found Greyhounds instead, though! Shaina was beautiful!

  16. What a great memory. Mom has beautiful pictures. Our Mom grew up around schnauzers. Her Mom still has one. However, Mom and Dad decided for a number of reasons to move to shelties when they were ready for dogs. We think this was a good idea.
