Dial Up Fun with ThunderShirt Dial-A-Distance Dog Leash

What type of leash do you use to walk your dog, standard or retractable? We normally use a standard 6-foot leash for Oz though when he was young, we did try walking him on a retractable leash. To be honest, we just felt Oz could (and did!) get in way too much trouble with 15-feet of leash so we stopped using it. Maybe if there was a retractable leash like the new Dial-A-Distance Leash by ThunderShirt, we would’ve used a retractable leash on certain occasions.

We know several dog owners who prefer the freedom of a retractable leash for walking their dog. Unfortunately, sometimes they are not paying attention and their dog gets further away than they would like before they can press the brake button. It is times like these that their dog can get too far into another dog’s space or worse - being in Florida, a dog can run into some seriously dangerous wildlife.

At ThunderShirt, they understand your dog’s need to explore while staying within a safe distance of you at any given time. That’s why they created the Dial-A-Distance retractable leash, the first retractable leash that lets you choose the maximum length of leash as you deem safe for your environment.

With Thundershirt Dial-A-Distance retractable leash, you get:

1. To adjust the leash to your desired maximum length between 0 and 15 feet
2. ThunderShirt’s patent-pending autobrake which will stop the leash at the length you choose
3. A manual brake button to immediately stop the leash from extending at any time
4. A lock for the manual brake button that keeps the leash at a fixed length until released.

On Dial-A-Distance, we noticed that once you set your desired distance and the leash extends or retracts, the Adjustment Dial rotates accordingly showing you the remaining length left before the autobrake engages. It was pretty cool and you can see it in our Dial-A-Distance video.

When she used to walk our neighbor's dog who had a regular leash she often had other dogs
in their space and the owner was 1/2 block away.

  5. I have a retractable leash and we love it. You you think the makers of the thunder shirt will invent something for us doggies who are afraid of flies? When one gets in our house I shake from nose to tail. I have to go and hide.

    Aroo to you,

  6. The other day, driving to the river, we came upon a young woman who was jogging, with earphones on, and dog on retractable lead that was in the middle of the road!! She had no idea....SHEESH! We all have retractable leads, keeps us from getting tangled.

  7. Mom thinks this would work well when we are at trials and we are on a potty walk. It would give me a little more space to do my dudy and she would still have control

  9. I use a retractable leash in the backyard when it's raining or at night. Pierre loves to run in the rain and they both lose their minds at night so they have to be on a leash. I can stand on the patio and they go out in the yard!

  10. We were asked to review this leash. It sounds like a good product, but since Mom can't walk much right now, we had to pass. I know retractables get a bad rap, but they can be useful in the right situations.

  11. That's pretty cool for the small pups! I, howevers, am told that I will NEVER be allowed on one of those kinds of leashes, because, well, I'm big! hehehe I would snap that puppy like a twig under sasquatch!! BOL
    Great review Oz!

  12. Great review, Oz. We are going to be reviewing this as well (ours hasn't arrived yet) so this was a nice sneak preview for us. We haven't used a retractable leash with Ruby so I'm curious to give this a try
