Morning Hike at Jonathan Dickinson State Park

There's no better way to enjoy a three-day weekend than to spend some time in nature. Though our Saturday and Sunday were busy, yesterday was an open day so we decided to visit one of our local state parks, Jonathan Dickinson State Park.

The park was already buzzing with activity when we arrived. It seemed a lot of people, and their dogs, had the same idea as us! We headed out on the nature trail and realized we had most of the trail to ourselves, at least at the start of our little hike. We hiked down to the Loxahatchee River and then around through the scrub pine forest.

We have visited Jonathan Dickinson several times but this time, we learned a little more about the park's history. The land that is now the State Park was once Camp Murphy, a top-secret radar school during World War II! At the time, more than 6,000 service personnel were stationed at the camp, which was active from 1942 - 1944. Who knew we were hiking through some big history while in the park?!?

We always enjoy our visits to Jonathan Dickinson State Park. What fun things did you do this weekend?

  9. We didn't have a holiday on Monday, so it was just a normal two dayer. Mom was really busy with things both days, so not much happened. Your hike looked fun.
