Will You Make a #RawFeedingResolution in 2017? #StellaandChewys

Are you ready to make a raw feeding resolution this year? While you may not want to completely switch your dog to a raw diet, you can incorporate the health benefits of raw into some or all of your dog’s meals.

oz wants you to make Stella & Chewys raw feeding resolution

Stella & Chewy’s is an Oz the Terrier sponsor. We are being compensated for spreading the word about Stella & Chewy’s products but Oz the Terrier only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers.

Oz wasn’t always on a raw diet. Like a lot of dogs, he ate kibble and maybe the occasional wet/canned food. But Oz was always itchy, always scratching and certain foods made it worse. He had bald spots and skin infections from the constant itching and I felt like I was the worst dog mom on the planet.

Then, I read several articles online and learned how dogs were thriving on a raw diet. I was so nervous to switch Oz over but I went and bought pre-made raw food at the store anyway. I was going to follow the directions on how to transition a dog over to the food but my husband jumped in: “If you are going to switch him, then just do it all at once. If the kibble makes him itch, then why even keep feeding it?”

That was the day I threw away the kibble and fed Oz only raw. That was the beginning of our raw diet journey and we have never looked back and have never considered going back to kibble or canned food.

While Oz still has environmental allergies (that are getting worse as he ages) his food allergies are gone because on the raw diet. Oz is highly allergic to poultry so we stay away from chicken and turkey which is so much easier to do with raw . While raw diets may contain fruits and vegetables (remember, there is a difference between BARF and PREY), raw diets do not contain any grains. This is important to me because I recently learned from my vet that dog’s with severe allergies should be grain-free.

Allergies alone are not the only reason I will never switch back to kibble or canned. I know Oz’s overall health is better on a raw diet. Aside from his allergies and his aging eyes, our vet says for a 12 year old dog Oz is in great health – his muscles and heart are strong, his bloodwork is perfect, his teeth are clean.

  7. We are so glad that the raw diet has done so well for Oz, and he still looks like a youngster! Though I doubt we'll ever go completely raw, we definitely are fine with trying some different raw toppers and the crew really does like them.

  8. I don't think we will ever go full raw, but we are using more freeze dried foods and toppers which is a good thing.
