Living Large in Mazda CX-5 #DriveMazda #DrivingMatters

On our recent adventure around greater Fort Lauderdale, when we visited Lola's Market, we were test-driving the 2016 Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV.  The CX-5 is the midsize vehicle in Mazda's crossover SUV line which also includes vehicles we previously reviewed like the Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-9.

The Mazda CX-5 is known as the "overachiever in its class". It has been ranked a 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick when it is equipped with Mazda's Smart City Brake Support and has been ranked number one in Compact Crossovers and SUVs by Car & Driver. We found the CX-5 a joy to drive and our tall passengers found it to be comfortable and roomy for its size.

Soul-in-Motion DESIGN
Many people we saw commented on the design of the CX-5. The sleek lines can be seen in the overall design as well as in the details and give the CX-5 an air of strength. The design is based on Mazda's KODO Soul-in-Motion concept which tries to capture the very instant energy becomes motion. According to Mazda, KODO is the muscular beauty we see when an animal pounces or a human leaps into action. We love the concept and can see KODO in the CX-5.

Room for Dogs and their Families to Live Large
We found the Mazda CX-5 comfortably fits four adults with room for a dog or child. The two-tone leather sport seats are comfortable and look great but we worry about white interior when you own a dog. We would definitely recommend dog owner's use a seat cover if they do not want to see dirty paw prints everywhere.

The cargo area of the CX-5 is roomy as well. It has plenty of space for whatever you need for your dog-friendly adventure. The cargo area also has a retractable cover that allows you to hide your gear from nosy people who look into your car.

 A Sixth Sense for Safety
At Mazda, they blend their sports car know-how with innovative design and safety features to make a vehicle you will want to drive. Safety is always first on our minds when driving which is why Oz always wears his Sleepypod Clickit Sport safety harness. Our CX-5 came with the following top-notch safety features:

  • Smart Brake Support - when traveling over 10 mph, Mazda's Smart Brake Support helps to detect objects ahead and warns you when braking is necessary. If the driver doesn't take action, the brakes are automatically applied.
  • Distance Recognition Support System - when traveling over 19 mph, the Distance Recognition System measures the distance between you and the car ahead of you and recommends a comfortable following distance. If you encroach on the distance a warning light will appear.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring - this helps to detect and alert you to objects in your blind spot with a chime and/or a warning light in the appropriate side-view mirror.

Driving Matters
At Mazda, the details matter because driving matters and driving the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV is no exception.  We found the CX-5 to be a capable vehicle, one built for both a sporty drive and a fun adventure. The Mazda CX-5 boasts a bold, strong exterior design, a comfortable, roomy cabin and innovative safety features that combine to make an overall terrierific driving experience.

Drive Mazda. Driving Matters.

Zoom-Zoom. Drive Mazda because Driving Matters.

Oz the Terrier would like to thank DriveShop and Mazda for the opportunity to test-drive the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV.

  3. Ring-a-Ding Ding! Oz The Great in a super duper car. White our car is white with the same color interior but not as super nice as that one. Hide your gear from the nosy yep Lee and I could use that, why would you believe someone took my Halti it was just on the front seat while Lee went into the post office only and few steps away and our window was partially down. I saw them do it but I cannot tell Lee who it was. Why would they want a Halti?
    Thanks for being a friend

  6. Cammie and I like their "zoom zoom" slogan. Quite possibly because we like to zoom zoom through the main floor of the house.
That looks like a very nice vehicle. Did you get to drive it, Oz?

  12. Great review Oz! Glad you got to go on an adventure too! When our mommy and daddy got their new cars they went to a dealership in a primarily retirement age community on the Oregon coast. All of the cars on their lot have black leather seats because the retirees all have dogs that will get light colored seats dirty. Funny huh? Mommy had to have her car brought in from another town because she wanted light leather seats. Daddy special ordered his car from the factory but he was convinced and got the black leather seats in case we ever get a woofie furbling again.
