What'll Ya Have?!

As we drove through Atlanta on our way to Tallulah Gorge State Park, we had to make a nostalgic stop for Daddy-dog.  We had to grab a quick bite at The Varsity near the Georgia Tech campus, Daddy-dog's alma mater.

Oz the Terrier enjoys a nostalgic stop at The Varsity for a quick lunch

The Varsity is an old fashioned drive-in that has been serving customers in Atlanta since 1928.  Though you can go in and eat in the restaurant, we love the car hop service and Daddy-dog always saves me the end bits of his hot dog.

Daddy-dog ate at The Varsity all the time when he was a student at GT.  They say when the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets have a home game, over 30,000 people visit The Varsity.  That's a lot of chili dogs and hamburgers!

Do you ever make a nostalgic stop on a road trip with your pet parents?

  3. We have seen this shown on the Food Network a couple of times but have never been to it - Mom doesn't like hot dogs so it is probably not a place we would ever visit

  4. OMD....is that still there? Mommy remembers eating at the Varsity when she took her very first trip by herself when Grandma threw her on a plane to go visit Aunty Mary and her cousins in Atlanta. She was only 12 years old at the time. Her 14-year-old cousin told her The Varsity was the most popular hangout for teens. Mom went there a lot while she was visiting in Atlanta!

  20. Sounds like a very fun place to go to eat! We have a restaurant kind of like that here, it hasn't been around nearly as long as The Varsity, but it sounds somewhat similar - it's a fifties and sixties styled drive-in type restaurant called The Chatterbox.

  23. I wish there were still more drive-in restaurants, I haven't been to one in YEARS. They're so fun, and it's especially great that it's something dogs can do too!
