In Memory of Tootsie

This past Saturday, Uncle Robbie, Ma and Daddy-dog's good friend and my Canoe Captain when we are camping, had to make the difficult decision to help his cat of 15 years, Tootsie, go to the Rainbow Bridge.

Tootsie 1/29/00 - 1/24/15

Tootsie had been sick for some time; she had lost a lot of weight.  Then, she became even more sick and Uncle Robbie took her to the vet where they did lots of tests.  It turned out that Tootsie had some bladder problems, heart problems and a newly diagnosed thyroid problem.  The vet, concerned for Tootsie heart, couldn't do any of the treatments and recommended that Tootsie go to the Rainbow Bridge.

I got to meet Tootsie several times when I visited Uncle Robbie.  She was not particularly fond of me having never been around dogs but she would tolerate my presence in her house.  She was a great cat though...she was super pretty, her meow was precious and she liked to "talk" to Uncle Robbie.  Like me, she loved to stalk and chase the lizards that got into the screened-in porch!  She even cuddled with Uncle Robbie every night.

One of the best things about Tootsie was how smart she was!  Oh My Cat!  One day, Uncle Robbie said he heard something akin to running water coming from the bathroom.  Thinking he left the faucet open, he went in to the bathroom to check it out.  There, perched on the toilet with her tushy over the water, was Tootsie...peeing in the toilet!  No one ever showed her how to do that...she figured it out all on her own!

We are all going to miss Tootsie a lot.  Uncle Robbie and Wren, his other cat, are trying to settle into a new routine without her.  I know it may take some time but I am sure they will find peace just as Tootsie has.

Run free, Tootsie!  I hope you are stalking and chasing lizards at the Bridge!  Remember to leave some for me!

  16. Aw, poor Tootsie. It's always a hard decision, but it sounds like she had a great life and a wonderful family. I'm sure she's chasing lizards (and maybe flushing toilets!) to her heart's content.

  20. Aw, I'm sorry, Oz. Do you think Tootsie learned to pee in the toilet because she was watching Uncle Robbie while he peed? *tee hee* It's OK to laugh at the good memories of our pet friends. Tootsie was quite a looker, too! Orange kitties are my favorite. Kisses to you. xoxoxo

  35. So many furry friends have left us to go over the rainbow bridge lately. So sad to see them go! We're sorry about your friend Tootsie...she sounds like a great gal. I can't believe she taught herself how to go potty on the human toilet! She must have been one very smart kitty. Much love, The Scottie Mom.
