My Lucky Sombrero Vueltiao

If you are not on social media, then you may not know that I have been cheering for Colombia in the World Cup (along with the USA, of course).  Daddy-dog is Colombian so we have gotten into the spirit when the Colombian team plays; Daddy-dog wears his jersey and I wear one of his Sombrero Vueltiaos.

The sombrero vueltiao, or "turned hat", is an icon of Colombian culture which comes from the hot savannas of the Atlantic coast.  It was originally a peasant hat but it is now a national symbol.

The sombrero vueltiao is made from palm tree fibers that are finely braided by Colombian artisans.  The braiding is so fine that you can fold, or "ball up", the hat for packing then shake it out to wear it again.

I've worn the sombrero vueltiao during each World Cup game that Colombia has played so far and if you don't know...we keep winning.  We have made it to the quarterfinals!  Viva Colombia!

Have you been watching the World Cup?  Who are you cheering for?

I am joining my friends Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachshund Nola for Black and White Sunday.  Thank you for hosting, mis amigas!

  8. must admit to being a sports fan - as in no sports at all :) But we have noticed a lot of people cheering on the USA...which is pretty amazing seeing how a few years ago most people in the USA didn't even really now what soccer was.

  9. Colombia won't win it all. My pick is Vatican City and I'm not even Catholic. It was the product of hard work in a brainstorming session.

  10. Pawsome! I was for England since I'm from there, but they went home, so now I'm kind of teamless. Katie is from Germany, so she is rooting for them, Bailie is USA born, so she is for the USA. I will remain neutral to avoid any fights, or maybe I could adopt Columbia? Congrats to your team!

  12. We're cheering for the USA (my other favorite team went home). I was going to try to teach Mr. N to wave the flag but now I can't find it!
