Recovered - The Shapeshifters' Library: Book 3

Between the holidays, I took an opportunity to get caught up on my reading.  I haven't read in months so it was nice to sit down with a good book and lose myself in a story.  I read Recovered - The Shapeshifters' Library: Book 3 by Amber Polo.

About the Author
Amber Polo is an award-winning author who has had a lifelong love affair with libraries and dogs.  A fascination with lost ancient libraries and curiosity about why werewolves outnumbered dog-shifters in literature inspired The Shapeshifters' Library, her urban fantasy series filled with librarian dog-shifters.

Since I have a fascination with all those great History Channel shows about lost ancient civilizations (ok...and Ancient Aliens) and I love good werewolf and vampire stories (no, not Twilight), I knew I was going to enjoy this book.  I just did not realize how much I would enjoy this book!

About Recovered - The Shapeshifters' Library: Book 3
Bliss D. Light was just an ordinary children's librarian until one day she discovered she could grow a tail.  Now her life is filled with more magic than any of the fairy tales she tells the children who gather at her feet at the Shipsfeather library.  Like many other residents of Shipsfeather, Ohio, Bliss is a dogshifter and her newly discovered ability to change from human form into that of a sleek white greyhound has left her yearning to know more about her true heritage.

After reading that, I could just sense the adventure and I dove right in to the story!  I don't want to reveal too much but...

Bliss just knows that to answer her questions about where she came from and who she is, she needs to find the dogshifters' long lost Library of the Ancients.  She heads out with her best friend, and werewolf/dogshifter mix, Harry, to the ancient mounds of the Midwest and Southwest.

Of course, their quest is not without peril.  Bliss and Harry are captured by dog catchers early on and  Bliss is sold to a greyhound racing track (GRRRRRRR) while Harry is sold to a breeder of wolfdogs.  They escape, of course, with help from who else...animal rescuers...only to find they are being chased by some evil werewolves who want nothing more than to do away with dogs and libraries forever.

Oh, I could go on and tell you ALL about it but that would ruin the reading for you.  Even though this book is the third in a series, I have only read this one and I can tell you, you don't NEED to read the first two to understand the story, the characters, etc.

My Thoughts
Recovered - The Shapeshifters' Library: Book 3 has a little bit of everything for the reader (and dog lover) - wonderful characters, animal rescue and conservation, lost ancient places and artifacts, a quest for knowledge and a love story.  Once I started reading, it was hard to put it down (except at mealtime, because you know I will not pass up food).  The story grabbed me from the first page and at the end, left me begging for more!

I loved joining Bliss and Harry on their quest as they try to figure out Bliss' heritage (she is, after all, one of the most ancient breeds of dog) while running and jumping over obstacles and ultimately uncovering the Library of the Ancients!

You can purchase a Kindle edition on Amazon HERE (current price is $2.99).  You can purchase a paperback edition on Amazon HERE (current price is $15.19).

I highly recommend
Recovered - The Shapeshifters' Library: Book 3.
