{This Moment}: See Beautiful: My Christmas Tree

Ma never had a real Christmas tree; she always had the one that came out of a box.  It was a small 4 footer that she would put on a table and decorate.  It always looked cute.  Daddy-dog, on the other paw, prefers a real Christmas tree.

Now, we always get a "Charlie Brown tree"...a tree like the one Charlie Brown chooses for the Christmas play - it is small and spindly - and everyone laughs at him for choosing such a pathetic tree.  Yep, that's our tree!

Do you know the Christmas song, "The Christmas Tree That Ran Away"?  If not, you can listen to it HERE.  The chorus, sung by a little Christmas tree, goes something like this:

Nobody wants me, and tomorrow’s Christmas Day.
Nobody needs me for the Christmas holiday.
Nobody loves me, and I have no place to stay.
Nobody wants me. I’m going to run away!

It makes Ma cry every time she hears it.  I'm not kidding; Daddy-dog and I make fun of her because...it is just a song.

So, Ma insists that EVERY Christmas tree needs a home, even the ones that people continually pass over for the fuller, larger, greener (whatever) tree.  Hence, our "Charlie Brown tree" tradition.  Ma knows with a little time to open up, some gentle pruning of some branches, the right decorations and a little love, every tree can be Beautiful

This year, Ma didn't put any lights on our tree except for the star on top.  She didn't use a lot of ornaments either but she did put the Beautiful travel ornaments on there.  Ma and Daddy-dog buy ornaments from all over so they can remember the Beautiful memories of the places they have been.

The other day I received a small package from my new friend Travis at Marked Moments.  Ma said I could open it early and I was so excited when I did.

Travis sent me a personalized, hand-carved wood Dog Bone ornament for my Christmas tree.  It is Beautiful.

Now I can add a Beautiful memory (ME!) to our Christmas tree.  What a perfect little gift, don't you think?  You can get one for yourself, or a friend, at Travis' Etsy Shop HERE.

Even though we always have an awkwardly-shaped tree...and even if we don't put lights or fancy ornaments on it...our Christmas tree is always Beautiful

What makes your Christmas tree and/or holiday Beautiful?

I am joining Sugar the Golden Retriever for the {This Moment} See Beautiful blog hop.  If you See Beautiful around you, please join the hop and share Beautiful with us.

  2. That is a beautiful tree.....our Mom is funny - she will only buy a live christmas tree if it has roots on it so she can plant in in the garden afterwards. Now if you really want to see you Mom cry - have her listen to the song "Alfie the Christmas Tree" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jt_9ZzMmrtE

    1. Oh, I wish we could get one with roots so we could plant it after Christmas but I don't think it would grow down here in the summer heat. And oh dawg...Ma remembers that song now (after listening to it again)...teary-eyed. BOL

  3. Oz, I agree with your mom, every tree needs a home. Even the papermade white thingy in my crib. I feel sorry for the tree in the song too. The Ornament (or Oz-nament) is beautiful, what a wonderful memory. I hope you will have a super christmas with a lot of beautiful moments.

    1. It doesn't matter if it is real or papermade, Easy...they all need homes at Christmas. Yes, that poor little tree but he does find a happy home at the end of the song.

  5. I think your tree is the most beautiful, and I love your new ornament! When mom was little she felt bad for a small tree on the lot and insisted nobody was going to take it home. Grandma tried to talk her into a bigger tree, but they ended up with the little tree after all.

  6. Oz Mama had to hunt forever to find a copy of the record that song came out on, people always thought she was strange when she talked about all the songs on it including the Christmas Tree that Ran Away. The record was called Santa Claus is coming to Town, but several records were issued with that name. It also had several of Mama's favorites the Martian's Christmas and the Weatherman's prayer where a weatherman in southern CA goes nuts and predicts it will snow and prays Santa will bring snow and save his job. While most people know about the Christmas Hippo song, Mama always preferred the manipulative girl in I Want an Elephant for Christmas who works her way down from an Elephant to the dog she really wants listing a bunch of impractical animals until a dog seems reasonable.

As for us the Day Before the Night Before Christmas works for us. It is all about trying to be good at the last minute to impress Santa.
