Snake...Not in the Grass!

I have named him "Slitherin"...the Southern Black Racer snake that lives between our yard and the neighbors.  I always know when he is around "cause I can smell him, but this time he really tricked me!

Instead of coming under the fence from the neighbor's yard, he came over it!  Slitherin is a good climber, as you can see, and I was always watchful of him when I was guarding the bird's nest.  If he can come over the fence, climbing a tree is nothing!

Slitherin is always afraid of me, as he should be but I don't think I am brave enough to actually catch him.  I just like to bark at him and chase him from a distance.  He is fast and always gets away!

  2. Nah, he's not poisonous. He is just a pretty large and good-climbing garden snake.

We like him because he eats the frogs/toads in the yard that are poisonous to dogs! You could say he is a "dog-friendly" snake!
