Top 3 Reasons to Buckle Up Your Pet #BeSleepypodSafe

Whether you are driving across town or across the country with your pet, it’s important to ensure their safety as well as your own. It’s why every car ride with Oz begins with buckling him up using his Sleepypod Clickit Sport harness.

With all the talk about pet safety and all the product options for securing a pet in a vehicle, it is surprising to us when we still see drivers holding their pets on their lap or letting their pet wander unrestrained in the car. We believe if you are putting your child in a car safety restraint and buckling your own seat belt, than you should be just as concerned for the safety of your pet while driving.

What Can Happen to an Unrestrained Pet in a Vehicle

Top 3 Reasons to Buckle Up Your Pet

1. The Dangers of an Airbag
Whether you let your pet have the front seat or let him sit in your passenger’s lap, in the event of an accident and airbag deployment, your pet is at risk. The force of the airbag’s deployment can severely injure and even kill your pet. Just like children, pets should be in the back seat of the vehicle.

2. Your Pet as a Projectile
When unrestrained, even a 10-pound pet can become a dangerous projectile within the vehicle, generating 500 pounds of force in a 50-mph crash. Imagine the injuries to your pet at that amount of force! If your pet becomes a projectile, it can also cause serious injury to you or others in your car.

3. Preoccupied by Your Pet
Did you know an unrestrained pet in the vehicle is just as distracting as texting while driving? AAA has found that distracting events while driving, like reaching back to check on your pet, include “latency” - meaning the distraction can negatively affect full driving engagement for an average 27 seconds after the distraction. A lot can happen on the road in 27 seconds.

  2. Momma didn't always seatbelt us, but Jessie loves to wander the car and would climb up in the front seat AND into the back cargo area if she isn't restrained! Now we both go seatbelted every time.

  5. OMD! I would choose the Click It Sport in aqua for my granddog, Paisley. She loves riding shotgun with her dad in his truck but needs to be safe. ♥

  6. I've really been wanting a Sleepypod for our cats. My daughter's cat is larger - over 10 pounds, and she wants to start taking him with her when she goes to her boyfriend's on weekends (he lives over 1-1/2 hours away from us). The boyfriend has two cats, too, and she wants to introduce them and let them get to know each other (after all, with the way things are progressing, it's very likely they'll be moving in together before long). I have two other cats - both smaller, but I worry about them going to and from the vet or traveling any distance in a basic carrier. Our newest addition is a kitten I found at just two weeks old, and who I bottle fed. She's growing like a weed and I have no idea how big she'll get. She will have to go to the vet for her second and third sets of shots, plus her spay, so having a safe, comfortable, and sturdy carrier like this would make me feel much better about having her in my vehicle. I think I'd pick the Strawberry Red color, too

  10. SHE says another good reason, is that some crazy, wet, MUDDY dog may leap across the front seat onto the dashboard, barking wildly at a dog passing by on a truck! (Luckily, the car was still parked and Dui hadn't been strapped in yet.)

  11. I would love to use a sleep pod in grey. I have two larger cats that travel with us often and having a nice safe place for them to be would put my heart at ease traveling. It would also help their stress levels as well.

You know, because of you, we have learned not to ride shotgun anymore, but to sit in the back seat (with our seatbelts on, of course). We didn't think about the airbag issue, so THANK YOU!!! Safety is so very important!
