Well, did you? Ah, the age old question families have yelled throughout their home for years. Did you feed the dog? Has anyone fed the dog today? I can hear that in several different familial voices and tones. If you are like most and do not get a prompt response, you probably go ahead and feed the dog but how do you know the dog hasn’t already been fed? I’ll tell you how. With this simple little gadget – Did You Feed the Dog.
Did You Feed the Dog (DYFTD) was invented by Jim Foley to remove some degree of uncertainty from the lives of pet parents. Every time you or someone in your family feeds the dog (or cat or rabbit or bird, etc.), you slide the button for the corresponding meal – MON A.M. for breakfast, TUE P.M. for dinner…you get the idea. It is old-school accountability at its finest!
DYFTD does not require any batteries, or charging or WiFi. It is the abacus of pet feeding. DYFTD comes with both 3M double-sided stickers and magnets for mounting in whatever spot you feel is most convenient. You can use the stickers to mount it on the wall near your pet’s bowl or on the door to the pantry where you keep your pet’s food. If you feed a raw diet, you can use the magnets to mount it on your refrigerator.
The real trick with this traditional record keeping technology is to get everyone in the household who feeds your pets in the habit of clicking the button over. This form of manual labor may be too much for some to handle at first but once they get the hang of it, they will be jumping at the chance to make that button “click”.
What I really love about this low-tech device, aside from the fact that it won’t crash or have an update that will take an hour of data usage is that it can also be used for other pet chores. If you don’t need to keep track of meals then what about medications? Or to keep track of “did anyone walk the dog”?
And let’s be serious for one moment, with an estimated 52.7% of U.S. dogs being overweight or obese this is one great way to make sure that your dog is not getting too many meals per day because you are unsure if anyone fed him/her.

It sounds like a great idea...but my husband would NEVER remember to push any buttons...and he never feeds the girls anyway...they wait for me! :)
ReplyDeleteNow while I do finks this is a good idea 'cos you nose, you nefer wants the peeps to furget dinner time butts, it does cut down on our chances of getting two dinner bowls...which is what I is ALWAYS hoping fur!!!!

ReplyDeleteTHAT would be a FABULOUS TOOL fur keeping our Suppers coming ON TIME... butt with OUR MOM... she would just FURGET to move it over ... She is SUCH a DORK.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs tell us if we haven't fed them.
ReplyDeleteThis would be very convenient to have! Especially when we have something different in the schedule to mess with our usual routines.

ReplyDeleteWe will be more than happy to remind mom if she forgot to feed us

I love this idea for our dogs' supplements. I'm the only one who feeds the dogs and they won't let me forget. But the supplements can be an issue if I'm having a busy week.
ReplyDeleteOz what a great post....I tell you when mom has been out around din-din time, I try and try and try to convince her I'm starving...but the traitor, aka Dad always bellow I FED MADI... as soon as she walks in the door.
ReplyDeleteHugs madi your bfff
I have four rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds. Three of them I free-feed - keeping food in the bowls (they share bowls, too) since none of the three usually eat when I fill their bowls, but snack throughout the day (and all are of healthy weight). However, my Kyoko, who was nearly starved before I adopted her from a kill shelter, still acts like she's starving, even though she's actually now downright chubby. Kyoko gets fed twice a day in a slow-feeder bowl. Since I'm not always the one who feeds her, it's hard to keep track. This would be great for keeping track of when Kyoko gets fed.
ReplyDeleteMom usually feeds us with Dads help. If mom is late getting home she can tell if we have been fed cause we aren't crazy pulling on her pants legs BOL!

MAma says this would come in handy for days when she feeds us, and isn't home when Daddy comes in...and then HE feeds us too!
ReplyDeleteWe're not so sure about this....

That's pretty cool! We actually get three meals a day - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if Mom ever forgets, you can BET I'll remind her!!!! HA roooooo!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
This is such a great product! I usually feed the dogs but when I am not home this will help the rest of the family remember and keep track of their feedings. (entered as Joy)
ReplyDeleteLuckily our food dish is always full!

This is such a great idea for families where more than one person feeds the dogs. I am the only one that feeds the boys and believe me, Bentley lets me know if I am late. Dog forbid me to actually forget! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe cats will happily tell untruths and insist they haven't been fed, so some form of accountability is important. This is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteMy peeps don't have to worry about forgetting to fed me cause I remind them every morning.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
That is genius! I often forget to feed Pike on time - he's terrible about reminding me. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe are one of those households with an overweight dog - and since she begs for food all the time my husband thinks she's not getting fed enough :-/ This would be a great reminder for the entire household to let them know if she's already been fed or not to keep her on her diet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little gadget for dogs! :D Love Oz's look on his face! <3
ReplyDeleteI can see how that would be very useful. In our house one person does the feeding for the dogs, but the cat tries to get extra meals out of us. It is a good thing humans can talk or she would probably succeed...lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is genius, I need it because sometimes john feeds the dogs in the am and sometimes not and I have to guess.
ReplyDeleteWe could use this for the cat since she needs to get fed twice a day. My bf and I have different schedules and I'm always asking if he fed her yet so this would be a great solution to that!
ReplyDeleteSometimes signals get mixed up in our home. Our dogs love to be fed breakfast twice.
ReplyDeleteMy French bulldog "Sookie" occasionally gets a nice surprise double-breakfast! I think this is exactly what we need!! I searched online for other solutions and this one might be the best solution out there ♥
ReplyDeleteSometimes when I'm extra busy and in "auto-mode"... I've wondered if I already fed my dog or completely forgotten... I think this might be useful.
ReplyDeleteMy dogs eat so fast, it's not always clear that they've been fed. And of course, *they'll* never tell the truth!
