Hello pals! Dr. Oz the Terrier here with my final post in the Hill's Science Diet "Healthier Pets. Happier Lives." campaign. You may recall, we have been discussing the importance of preventative health and care and how, together, we can make all pets live healthier and happier lives.
As pets, we rely on our pet parents to make healthy decisions for us - it's not like we can drive ourselves to the vet office or to the local pet store. That's why I have been sharing some of the great resources on holistic approaches to dog care provided by Hill's. Let's recap, shall we?
3 Ways a Dog Can Stay Healthy Happy
According to the American Pet Products Association's National Pet Owner Survey for 2013-14, 26% of dog owners do not visit the vet until their pet is sick. This is unfortunate. "Annual checkups also allow your vet to more easily spot problems at their earliest stages, when they can often be handled simply and cost effectively." -- Dr. Ashley Gallagher, veterinarian, Friendship Hospital for Animals, Washington, D.C.
Proper nutrition is an essential part of maintaining your pet's health. To help you find a healthy dog food that is right for you, you must consider some important factors about your dog as well as the food including:
- Your dog's lifestage;
- Your dog's activity level
- Look for the AAFCO Nutritional Adequacy Statement; and
- Consider allergies and intolerances.
The little extras are those special moments that allow you to bond with your dog. These moments provide your dog with the mental stimulation and fulfillment that they need to lead a healthy, happy life. So be sure to Play, Groom, Give Little Treats and Love your dog.
I think we would all agree that a Healthy Dog is a Happy Dog which is why your pet's health is so important. Regular vet checkups, proper nutrition at mealtime and those little extras are essential to keeping your pet healthy as well as happy.
How do you stay healthy and happy?

Great post Oz! Our peeps are very good about taking us for our check ups, and feeding us good food and paying attention to our weight. That is hard for a pug to watch their weight but it helps to keep us healthy.
