March-ing Out the Limericks

In honor of St. Patrick, I have decided that March will be Limerick month on my blog and I am inviting YOU to be my inspiration (more on that in a moment).

Though the Limerick Poem is derived from the Irish town of Limerick, this poetic form can be traced back to fourteenth century England, where the form was used in nursery rhymes.  Often repeated in the British pubs, dirty versions of these poems were created by the "drunks" giving Limericks a "bad rap" and thus the form's dismissal as true poetry.

However, both Shakespeare and Edward Lear wrote Limericks...and, if it is good enough for them, it is good enough for me.

Now, on to how YOU can be my inspiration!

Limericks are funny poems written about someone - and I am going to need a lot of "someones" to write Limericks about if I am going to write them all month.  So, if you would like to be the subject of your very own Limerick poem, please email me HERE with the following information:

Your Name
Your Blog URL
Your Breed
City, State and/or County, Province, Country of Residence
and One funny or silly Fact about You

I will be posting Limericks on my blog under the label "March-ing Out the Limericks". You will also be able to see them listed on My Poems page(If you would like to re-post your Limerick onto your own blog, please let me know in your email and I will send you the proper attribution to use with it.)

Here is my first Limerick for the month (I am my own inspiration for this one):

There once was an old dog in Delray
whose fur was starting to gray.
He went for a dye,
to look young and spry
but the bald spot gave him away.
